6200 Two Channel Communications Recorders

The 6200 series is a range of two channel communications recorders, ideal for recording meetings, conferences, radio and telephone communications.

The recorder can be configured for cascade, loop or parallel operation. In cascade mode the second cassette starts recording before the first cassette runs out - providing an overlap between the two cassettes ensuring that no information is lost; in loop mode the same cassettes are continually recycled - providing a record of the last few hours of communications; parallel mode allows you to create two simultaneous copies - a master and a working copy or original masters for each of two parties. Whichever mode is used, every recording can be clearly time and date stamped, using NEAL's unique sub-audio time code or the NEAL speaking clock system

Standard Features

Two channel recording

Transformer isolated line level audio inputs.

Backlit liquid crystal display mounted centrally on the recorder. The LCD displays menu selection, four digit tape counter for each tape, recorder mode, time and date of sub audio timecode generator.

Record actuation is by front panel controls or by VOX (Voice Operated recording) or by external switch contact closure.

Recording levels manually set by a rear panel preset or automatically by the switchable ALC.

Tape-source switch selects the line loudspeaker and headphone output to be the off-tape signal or the source signal.

Line, loudspeaker and headphone outputs are the source signal during record and the off tape signal during replay.

Internal loudspeaker and headphone output with level control is switchable to monitor channel 1, 2, 3, 4 or all channels simultaneously.

Recorder may be powered by AC mains or 12V DC. Automatic changeover to accept external 12V DC supply in event of a mains failure.

Parallel remote control port.Autochangeover allows long duration unattended recording. This occurs one minute (at 4.76 cm/sec) before the end of the tape to ensure that no information is lost. Autochangeover is also initiated if a cassette stalls or jams.

Internal audible alarm sounds if autochangeover cannot occur due to the cassette being loaded incorrectly or if an already fully recorded cassette is left in the second transport after the previous changeover.

Available for 19" rack mounting (3U) or free standing use.

Menu Selectable Features

Cascade, loop or parallel record operating modes.

Voice Operated Recording (VOX) activation and settings.

RS232 serial port selectable for record activity print out, external time reference or remote control of the recorder.

Automatic cassette initialisation - this rewinds the cassettes then advances off the leader tape.

Optional Factory Fitted Features

Tape Speed - the recorder can be supplied to operate at standard cassette speed of 4.76cm/sec. Alternatively the recorder is available with a tape speed of 2.38cm/sec, 1.19cm/sec or 0.79cm/sec.

Continuous unattended recording time for two cassettes are as follows:-

4.76cm/sec 2.38cm/sec 1.19cm/sec 0.79cm/sec
C90 1½hrs 3hrs 6hrs 9hrs
C120 2hrs 4hrs 8hrs 12hrs

Proven Reliability Unique to all NEAL systems are cassette mechanisms designed and manufactured to rigid performance and quality standards entirely-in house. NEAL audio recorders have been successfully adopted by every UK police force, many Government bodies for investigative interviews and many commercial organisations.

Front Panel Level Control - front panel rotary level controls, for each of the two recording inputs for recording level adjustment.

Microphone Amplifier - the recorder can be fitted with four XLR phantom balanced microphone amplifiers in addition to the line inputs. Mic is disabled by inserting line input plug.

Variable Replay Speed Control - front panel replay speed controls with +33% -25% range, for tape A and tape B.

Time and Date Recording - the ability to identify exactly when a recording was made is sometimes just as important as the recording itself. The 6200 can provide this in two ways:-

  • Speaking Clock - recorded simultaneously with the recording session and can be replayed to audibly indicate when the recording was made.
  • Sub Audio Timecode (SAT) -The SAT is ‘stamped' onto the audio channel. Full date and time records are thus an integral part of the recording unlike other speaking clock systems where this information is separated. The triple advantages of added security, tape saving and the ability to use both tape channels simultaneously for audio recording are therefore achieved. The SAT information can be replayed on the NEAL 5000 series replay transcribers which provides automatic search and a number of features to speed the transcription process.
