7400 Series Audio Interview Recorder

The NEAL 7400 are a series of audio recorders specifically built for the tape recording of interviews as required by the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.

NEAL Recorders offer total protection by providing a complete record of accounts which is irrefutable, therefore ensuring that your case will be successful.

Built to the same high standard as the established NEAL 6200, 7200P and 7300 interview recorders currently in use with every UK police force, the 7400 series records four simultaneous cassettes (master to be sealed, working master, cassette for use by suspect or defence and a copy for external transcription services).
Requirement The revised Codes of Practice 'E' to the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, effective from 10 April 1995 paragraph 4.16, require a cassette of the interview to be made available to a suspect "as soon as practicable if the person is charged or is informed that he will be prosecuted".
Reduced Cost Whilst the use of high speed cassette copiers (see data sheet on NEAL 6223/6226 /6227) can produce the required third and/or fourth cassette, this involves additional time, labour and administration by officers or staff. This does not occur when four simultaneous recordings are produced during the interview.
Proven Reliability NEAL audio interview recorders have been in daily use since 1987 with a proven high level of reliability and evidential credibility. The 7400 series are built to the same high standard. As proven during 21 years of cassette recorder manufacturing, full service documentation, spares and future support is assured throughout the NEAL range.
Ease of Operation The familiar controls, appearance and audible alarm are retained from the existing NEAL audio interview recorders. This ensures ease of use and no additional training.

Models Available

The 7400 series currently features two models:

  • The 7426 where the automatic time recording is of elapsed time. The 7426 is used where the 6224, 7224 and 7326 recorders have been in use.
  • The 7425 where the automatic time recording is of year, month, date, hours, minutes and seconds. The 7425 is used where the 6221, 7221 or 7325 recorders have been in use.

Both spoken time announcements are automatically recorded every 10 seconds throughout the interview.

The 7400 series are already in daily use with UK police forces.

Remote Monitoring As with all current NEAL interview recorders, a remote monitor output is provided. Use of a separate monitoring unit allows the interview to be monitored for supervisory purposes. Monitoring can only occur whilst recording is taking place.

Installation Designed as a direct replacement in established interview suites, the 7400 series can use the existing mains lead and boundary layer microphone already installed within the interview room.

All NEAL interview recorders comply with the specification for interview recording equipment as required by the Home Office.
